Check Forces Tool is the software used by ISAAC to verify that the active inertial actuator, modelled within the FEM software used by designers, is able to generate the required force profile for as long as the earthquake lasts.

HOW DOES CHECK FORCES TOOL WORK?

Implemented within Check Forces Tool is an electro-mechanical and thermal model of the linear electric motors that drive the active inertial actuators (AMDs) proposed by ISAAC.

One or more force profiles obtained from the FEM simulations can be loaded into the software after verifying that:

  • The peak force required is less than the maximum force that the engine can develop;
  • the required force-speed profile is lower than the force-speed limit curve of the engine;
  • the temperature reached by the engine is lower than the maximum operating temperature.

From the results obtained, it is possible to calibrate the AMD control parameters in the FEM software to obtain force profiles that can actually be developed by the AMD.
