WHAT ARE ACTIVE SYSTEMS?

Active systems are used for earthquake protection or protection of structures from vibration caused by natural events, such as strong winds. They use mechanisms that are activated if they record a movement of the structure over a certain threshold, whose force is modulated based on the accelerations recorded. Active protection technologies use devices that “react” to earthquakes or vibrations of structures.
This is the case of Active Mass Dampers: masses moved by mechanical systems whose oscillations are electronically controlled in amplitude and frequency according to the accelerations felt by the building.

The active system developed by ISAAC is installed at the top of the building and, thanks to accelerometer sensors applied at certain points, records the movements of the structure and independently withstands the inertial forces induced by the earthquake or wind. This results in an increase in structural damping that reduces movements, preventing damage to the structure and sudden collapses.
